What Have I Been Watching?

Besides American Idol and the Super Bowl, I have not been watching a lot of TV lately.

I did manage to watch two episodes of Chuck last week. Chuck is possibly my favorite show on TV (it’s a close call between Chuck and Heroes).

I also watched LOST, which was a really good episode. I don’t think I like the glimpses into the future, but other than that it’s been fun to watch.

I have been watching Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice and while I enjoy it, the people on the show seem to have less desire to win at all costs than the normal apprentices.

Anyway, I have been rather busy lately, so I might start doing weekly round-ups of shows that I watch, instead of discussing each show separately.

Lastly, I am glad that it looks like the writer’s strike will be over soon. I would hate to see reality TV be the ONLY thing on TV the rest of the year.

So You Think You Can Dance - Season 3

I haven’t been watching much TV since Heroes and Lost finished up their seasons, but my wife Jill has been watching two show that I plan on talking about (both of which I have been watching bits and pieces of).

The first show I am going to talk about is “So you think you can dance”. It’s a pretty fun show to watch. I haven’t seen all the performances so far, but here are a few videos of people I enjoyed watching dance. I couldn’t find my favorite performance, but I am sure he will make it far.

First is someone from Houston Texas (my current home town). Phillip Chbeeb put on one of my favorite performances. It was pretty crazy looking:

Benji (my favorite from last year) danced with his sister, Lacey Schwimmer, in her audition. She is really, really good. In fact, she might be a better dancer than Benji:

This clogging dance by Brandon Norris was really amazing to me:

I remember Hokuto Konishi from last year. I am glad he got his work visa:

These two (Kurt Myers and Dia Beck) weren’t the greatest dancers, but the hiccuping and winking were funny:

Tony Velez had one of the most amazing moves (to me):

Janet Bombard did a really nice job of dancing and what was even more amazing was that she has a prosthetic arm:

Bryan Gaynor cracked me up and the fact that he was doing the most he could with what he had was inspirational. He can’t raise his arm over his head, because of scoliosis. Check out his video:

American Idol Starts Tonight!

American Idol is one of my favorite TV shows and it starts tonight… Wooohoo!

We (mostly Jill) cover it on our American Idol blog, so head over there to keep up with the latest news from American Idol.

Day Break is Cancelled - Say it Ain’t So

I just read over at sfsignal (via sfgate) that Day Break has been cancelled.

sfgate says:

Viewers will be able to follow “Day Break” online at ABC.com, at least for now. Thirteen episodes of the show were produced but an ABC spokeswoman wasn’t sure if all remaining episodes would be available at the web site.

At least for now??? What about the fans who want to see all thirteen episodes? I mean really… the networks give us new shows all the time and cancel them all the time. But when they cancel a serial show like Day Break, the viewers are left in the dark.

ABC - you really need to show all 13 episodes online. And all of you other networks out there: FOX, CBS, NBC, etc. you need to do the same thing for your loyal viewers.

What’s that old saying… “The customer is always right.”

Heroes Is Number 6!

I am a little late on this news, but the season ending episode of Heroes wound up ranking 6th in the Nielson ratings for the week of December 4-10. Of the shows in the top 20, I watched three (5,6,7 in bold below).

Here are the full results:

1. “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” CBS, 23.25 million viewers.

2. “NBC Sunday Night Football,” NBC, 19.90 million viewers.

3. “Deal or No Deal” (Monday), NBC, 17.38 million viewers.

4. “60 Minutes,” CBS, 15.83 million viewers.

6. “Heroes,” NBC, 14.95 million viewers.

7. “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” ABC, 14.21 million viewers.

8. “Cold Case,” CBS, 14.05 million viewers.

9. “Shark,” CBS, 13.98 million viewers.

10. “Without a Trace,” CBS, 13.89 million viewers.

11. “Criminal Minds,” CBS, 13.85 million viewers.

Survivor Cook Island Winner is -

Yul Kwon won the 13th edition of Survivor - “Cook Island”. He narrowly beat out Oscar “Ozzy” Lusth.

I really thought Ozzy should have won. They were both strong contestants, but Ozzy seemed invincible in the immunity challenges. I think that host Jeff Probst may have felt the same way. Jeff Probst said, “It’s the first time I’ve ever felt bad that somebody didn’t win, It was so evenly matched.”

That said, Yul was certainly one of the best players and finding that immunity idol may have been what helped him win the 5-4 vote.

Who do you think should have won?

Heroes makes it in the top Ten

I don’t normally care about the Nielsen ratings, but I just noticed that Heroes made it into the top 10 of the Nielsen ratings. Here is a list of the top twenty shows for last week:

1. “Desperate Housewives,” ABC, 21.43 million viewers.

2. “CSI: Miami,” CBS, 18.54 million viewers.

3. “Grey’s Anatomy,” ABC, 18.51 million viewers.

4. “Fox NFL Sunday Postgame,” Fox, 17.59 million viewers.

5. “Fox NFL Thursday Postgame,” Fox, 17.19 million viewers. — Associated Press

6. “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” CBS, 17.17 million viewers.

7. “NCIS,” CBS, 17 million viewers.

8. “Deal or No Deal” (Monday), NBC, 16.97 million viewers.

9. “Criminal Minds,” CBS, 16.56 million viewers.

10. “Heroes,” NBC, 16.03 million viewers.

11. “CSI: NY,” CBS, 15.31 million viewers.

12. “NBC Sunday Night Football,” NBC, 15.22 million viewers.

13. “House,” Fox, 15.20 million viewers.

14. “Two and a Half Men,” CBS, 15.04 million viewers.

15. “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” ABC, 14.65 million viewers.

16. “Saturday Night Football,” ABC, 14.64 million viewers.

17. “Law & Order: SVU,” NBC, 14.20 million viewers.

18. “Boston Legal” (Special 1½6), ABC, 13.47 million viewers.

19. “60 Minutes,” CBS, 13.18 million viewers.

20. “ER” (Special 1½3), NBC, 13.04 million view

Of the shows in the top 20 I watched 3 of them. I think Jill watched either 4 or 5 of them. I would personally place Heroes at the top of the list. I like it way better than Desperate Housewives, but Desperate Housewives is definitely an interesting show.

I would also put Jericho into the top 20, but obviously my tv viewing habits don’t fall into the norm. Maybe one week I should try watching all of the shows in the top 20 and see what I think of them.

Stop messing with my DVR!

JP over at SfSignal wrote this post, listing some of his annoyances with my favorite show Heroes on NBC. I wanted to talk about his first point:

This one really bugs me to no end and I don’t know whose fault it is. Time Warner’s for having crappy time servers feeding time to the set-top boxes, or NBC for running Heroes long, but the last three episodes I’ve recorded have all ended with at least one minute left, if not more…

It bugs me too. It’s not only NBC though. ABC started this trend of letting shows running longer. LOST, Desparate Housewives, and some other shows always run about 5 minutes past the hour. I noticed FOX doing the same thing sometimes with American Idol. Uggh!

I wish the TV networks would stop doing that. I don’t want to miss the end of the show, because my DVR doesn’t automaticly add 5 mintues to the end of these shows. I don’t want to miss the begining of the next show if it’s on another network. The television networks need to just stop doing this!

That said, it’s not going to stop me from watching LOST or Heroes. It’s just annoying…

PS. What’s even more annoying is trying to set the DVR to record the Amazing Race on Sunday night. It’s nearly impossible to know what time the Amazing Race will be on at, because of the football delays.
