Stop messing with my DVR!

JP over at SfSignal wrote this post, listing some of his annoyances with my favorite show Heroes on NBC. I wanted to talk about his first point:

This one really bugs me to no end and I don’t know whose fault it is. Time Warner’s for having crappy time servers feeding time to the set-top boxes, or NBC for running Heroes long, but the last three episodes I’ve recorded have all ended with at least one minute left, if not more…

It bugs me too. It’s not only NBC though. ABC started this trend of letting shows running longer. LOST, Desparate Housewives, and some other shows always run about 5 minutes past the hour. I noticed FOX doing the same thing sometimes with American Idol. Uggh!

I wish the TV networks would stop doing that. I don’t want to miss the end of the show, because my DVR doesn’t automaticly add 5 mintues to the end of these shows. I don’t want to miss the begining of the next show if it’s on another network. The television networks need to just stop doing this!

That said, it’s not going to stop me from watching LOST or Heroes. It’s just annoying…

PS. What’s even more annoying is trying to set the DVR to record the Amazing Race on Sunday night. It’s nearly impossible to know what time the Amazing Race will be on at, because of the football delays.

Is The Amazing Race Fixed?

Last year my husband and I joked that The Amazing Race was fixed because every time the hippies were in last place, it was a non-elimination round. Now, history seems to be repeating itself. Even though Kentucky JUST pulled themself up from last place by getting the fast forward last week, this week they ended up at the bottom of the race again. AND… It was a non-elimination round! So, what do you think? Are the non-elimination rounds truly pre-determined OR does the show alter things to allow favorites (or at least more interesting contestants) to stay in the race?

The Most Amazing Thing About The Amazing Race

Just when I thought I’d seen it all on the Amazing Race, a team actually behaves in a completely altruistic fashion? On a race for a million dollars? Are you kidding me?

Erwin and Godwin Cho (the Cho brothers), who were in last place, had a chance to go to the fast forward. David and Mary (”Kentucky”) needed to come in first place to avoid being eliminated (as it turns out, they probably could have taken the 30 minute penalty and still have been in the race, but who knew that at the time). So, would their alliance hold up? Or was it going to be a case of one alliance member gets the fast forward, the other goes home?

As it turns out, not only did the Cho brothers allow “Kentucky” to go for the fast forward, they successfully discouraged others from going for it, allowing Kentucky a first place finish and another week in the race.

I have long said that The Amazing Race is interesting because it always seems to bring out either the best or the worst in people (and sometimes both). I have watched teams that I did not enjoy blossom into my favorites and watched my favorites deteriorate into whiny, pushy, bratty or just plain mean “ugly Americans”.

I’ve liked the Chos since the beginning, but I’m really impressed by their ability to stick by their alliance. I’ve honestly never seen an alliance work in The Amazing Race– oh, sure, maybe for one leg or in one competition, but then it’s usually back to “dog eat dog”.

It will be interested to see if the Cho/Bama/Kentucky alliance gets them to the end. And even more interesting to see if one of them will turn on the others before it’s all over. If that happens, my money’s on Bama to be the traitors. But we’ll see… I hope that isn’t the case.
