Heroes Episode 2 -Don’t Look Back

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

Heroes episode 2 was on tonight. It was pretty good. I am not sure how much I am going to like the show yet. The way it goes back and forth between story lines makes it feel like I am not learning much about any of the characters.

I am still not sure what to make of Nikki. She has this freaky shadow thing going on. Some think it is a doppelgänger - the ghostly double of a living person. I am not sure what it is, but I could do without it. Oh and did you notice how she went from watching the video at a stoplight to instantly making a phone call from the airport with a different set of clothes on? Pretty strange.

Lastly, I find some characters much more interesting than others. I think my favorite character is Hiro.

So who is your favorite character in Heroes?

Lost - A Tale of Two Cities

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

Uggh. I missed the very end of the show. I am going to have watch it later on ABC’s Internet rebroadcast.

Anyway, the show was probably one of the most confusing shows yet, and that’s saying a lot.

If you missed the show, here’s a quick recap. The show started off in what seemed to be a normal community, but then it turns out it’s the Other’s community. They are having a book club in someone’s house. Then the earth shakes and everyone comes out to see that a plane is crashing. Wow!

Ben (aka fake Henry Gale) sends out the Others to the camp. When they pan out to view the island, the island looks awfully big.

The rest of the show is about Jack, Sawyer and Kate being held hostage and the apparent experiments being run on them.

During the entire show Jill and I were wondering, “Who in the world is Juliet? Haven’t we seen her before somewhere?”

It turns out that yes, we have seen her before. The actress that plays Juliet is named Elizabeth Mitchel and she played Carter’s girlfriend on ER. That’s where Jill and I recognized her from. She’s also been on several other shows and plays Mrs Clause in the Santa Clause movies. You can visit Elizabeth Mitchel’s official website by clicking here, to learn more about her.

So do you think Juliet is Ben’s wife? Wasn’t he working on her house, when the explosion happened?

The show was pretty crazy. It looks like they are experimenting on Kate, Sawyer and Jack. But why?

Oh, and how surprising was the opening scene with the Others living what looked like a normal life in regular houses?

Then there were the cages. How odd?

Lots of people on the net say the cages resemble a skinner box. Take a look at this page. Scroll down and check out the picture of the mouse in the cage, kind of reminds you of Sawyer in his cage.

So are you LOST yet? (I am)

Top 5 Questions I have after watching Desperate Housewives “A Weekend in the Country”

Monday, October 9th, 2006

Last night’s episode of Desparate Housewives was a bit predictable. I mean didn’t you just know that once Susan went away for the weekend with Ian that Mike was going to wake up?

I am a bit put off by the Susan and Mike - on again/off again story line. I grew up watching too many of those on sitcoms in the 80s.

Anyway, here are the top 5 questions I currently have about the show:

Will Mike be able to identify Orson as the driver of the car?

Will Bree’s bad taste in men continue throughout the life of the show?

Will Gabrielle and Carlos get a divorce or find some reason to stay together?

Will they all get locked up in the end (like in Seinfeld)?

Who will get blown away in the supermarket hostage situation they have talked about is coming this November?

What are the top questions you would like to have answered from Desperate Housewives?

Heroes - Chapter 3 One Giant Leap

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006

Last night, was chapter 3 of the new tv show Heroes. I found this excellent recap on givememyremote.

The show is a little bit more creepy than I expected, but it’s still pretty cool.

I told Jill tonight that I thought that the whole season we would go through this elaborate story and then in the final episode we would get back to the scene where Hiro is being arrested for murder, then the nuclear explosion, then Hiro goes back in time again and they flash up “to be continued next season…” on the screen.

Jill responded by basically saying, “No way, I think that in the next couple of weeks they are going to solve the whole nuclear bomb issue.”

I guess we will have to wait and see.

All in all, I like the show a lot and look forward to seeing how it all plays out.

Hiro’s Blog

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

How cool is this… Hiro from NBC’s hit show Heroes has a blog! You can click here to check it out.

What a cool idea! It reminds me a little of the show Push Nevada. Push Nevada was a bit ahead of it’s time, with the whole mixing of the Internet and TV. The fact that Hiro blogs pushes him ahead of Mohinder on my list of favorite characters on the show.

Anyway, go read Hiro’s blog then come back here and let me know what you think of it.

Bionic Woman Coming Back to TV

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

According to Variety “Battlestar Galactica” executive producer David Eick and feature screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis are teaming up to bring “The Bionic Woman” back to Television on NBC.

Cool!

I used to watch the Bionic Man and the Bionic Woman growing up. It brings back good memories…

It will be fun to see how they upgrade the bionic woman for the 21st century.

LOST Glass Ballerina - Sun’s Episode

Thursday, October 12th, 2006

This show was primarily about Sun. We knew she had an affair, but who knew she was capable of killing?

On the boat when Colleen tell’s Sun that she knew Sun wasn’t capable of killing, didn’t you just know that Sun was going to shoot?

The Others have understimated her.

When Jin let Jae (aka. the bald guy) live, only to have Jae land on his car, the first thought that ran through my head was, “Oh my goodness, Sun killed Jae!”

I know they are trying to make us think that Sun’s dad did it, or that Jae commited suicide, but that’s too easy.

Sawyer and Kate had some interesting scenes together. It’s about time they kissed. From what I understand, the line “You Taste like Strawberries” is from a line in an old episode of Buffy the Vampire slayer. And Sawyer knows they are being watched, so why did he tell Kate all that information about the guards? Is it a Long Con?

The one thing that bothered me about the show was Sayid’s seemingly stupid plan to capture the Others. Sayid has always seemed rather intelligent, but this plan didn’t seem so smart. Which made me think, “Is Sayid an other?” No, can’t be, I mean he couldn’t possibly be an other, right?

As for Jack and Ben. When Ben proposes that Jack could get off the island, I was wondering what in the world does Ben want Jack to do? Betray his friends, help them with some of the medical experiments they are doing? Or maybe Ben needs Jack to perform surgery on Colleen to remove the bullet Sun put in her stomach.

Guess we will know soon enough.

Still LOST as ever…

Jericho - Why those cities?

Friday, October 13th, 2006

I just found this excellent explanation for why the attackers in Jericho chose the particular cities that they chose. You can read it here on the Jericho forum scroll down towards the bottom to see the explanation.

Basically, the theory is that they chose Atlanta, Dallas, New York, Seattle, Philadelpha, Chicago, Denver, San Diego, San Francisco, LA, St. Louis, etc. because they are major Internet exchange points. I had been wondering why they attacked Dallas and not Houston. This makes sense to me. They wanted to bring down communication, so they needed to take down the Internet.

Although, somehow Hawkins manages to have an Internet connection. Obviously, he is either involved with the group who is trying to take over the country or he is trying to stop them. The show sure is trying to make him look like a bad guy, so maybe he really is a good guy.

Anyway, I definitely buy the theory that they were taking out the Internet. What a Bummer! I mean sure no food, water and gas is bad, but no Internet?

Does every show now have to be a serial?

Monday, October 16th, 2006

Remember when Alias was such a big deal because it was renewing the idea of a serial? You couldn’t miss an episode or you risked being completely lost. Then came Desperate Housewives and Lost. Lost was at least kind enough to provide periodic episodes that were just for the purpose of catching you up in case YOU had been marooned on an island and missed recent shows.

Now it seems every show must add a serial element. Shows like Ugly Betty, which would be fine with no “mystery” waiting to be solved still have the mystery. So, what is this fascination with the serial?

The serial has been around for a long time. The book Treasure Island was originally written as a newspaper serial, as were several Charles Dickens’ novels. Radio created the “soap opera” a highly dramatic type of serial that later migrated to television. But, other than nighttime soaps, such as Dallas and Knot’s Landing, the serial was not seen as frequently on primetime television in recent years. E.R. has a serial-type style, but I’ve missed whole seasons and not really lost any major plot lines.

But today I can name many serials right off the top of my head: Heroes, Lost, Jericho, Desperate Housewives and Kidnapped, without even stopping to think too hard. One obvious appeal for writers of shows is that they can develop a longer plot line. Audience members are also likely to tune in more often, once they’re “hooked”.

The funny thing is that the networks like the serial, but not TOO much. Alias was watered down after the first season, leaving behind the cliffhanger nature of each episode for a more standard form of show. Some people say that, ultimately, this is what ended Alias’ run– the network kept insisting things be dumbed down more and more (well, that and Jennifer Garner getting married and having a baby), so that the audience wouldn’t get lost. Thankfully, it seems to have paved the way for other shows, such as Lost, to have an easier time of weird and twisting plot lines.

So, I’m all for television serials. I just wish they wouldn’t create serial elements in shows that don’t need it.

Heroes Chapter 4 Collision

Monday, October 16th, 2006

Ok, the name of the next show is “Save the cheerleader, save the world.” Umm… that seems wrong on so many levels.

Anwyay, this evening’s episode was awesome as always.

So I used to think I liked Hiro best, after this episode I am really intrigued by Peter’s super power. Being able to pick up and use the powers of those around him. Pretty cool!

Nikki’s alter ego is something else. It was good to see that it was a split personality thing and she didn’t have some sort of ghost that was doing the dirty work.

Claire’s story get;s more interesting every episode. What’s the deal with her father? How evil is he? or is he good? Naw, he’s got to be evil. Oh, and imagine being able to get back at her QB friend the way she did?

I was a little bummed that Nathan would cheat on his wife. It’s just tv, but still…

Hiro looks like he is a pretty awesome super hero in the future and what a way to end the show with him coming back from the future to chat with Peter? Wow! This show is quickly becoming my favorite show on our tv.

What was your favorite part of tonight’s show?

Have you Seen the Heroes Comic Books?

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

NBC has a set of comic books that goes along with each episode. They tell a little more about the story. My favorites so far are from episode 3 and episode 4. The comic book for Episode 4 is especially interesting since we get to see what happens to Claire after the car crash.

You can click here to check them out yourself.

Pretty cool, huh?

Heroes even have MySpace Pages!

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

Oh my goodness. Jill just found out that some of the Heroes characters have myspace pages. She clicked on the comic book and saw Claire’s myspace page. How cool!

I then did some more searching and here are some more of the character’s myspace pages:

Hiro Nakamura
Matt Parkman
Nathan Petrelli

There might be others, but those were the main characters myspace pages that I was able to find.

Let me know if you can find any others.

This show is starting to remind me a little bit of Push Nevada with the heavy mix of an Internet element to go with the Television show.
