Bummed again - Ryan goes Home - Rockstar Week 9 Elimination

To start things off Lukas rocked with Supernova. It was pretty good. He really fits in well with their band. However, of all the performances with Supernova I liked Toby’s performance the best.

As for the elmination, Ryan put on the best performance but got booted anyway. I was a little bummed, because I would much rather see Ryan on stage next week instead of Storm.

Storm and Dilana were not that good tonight. It was obvious that Supernova just wanted to get rid of Ryan. I don’t think Ryan really would have fit in with their band. That said, they know Storm doesn’t fit in either. They really should have sent her home.

The audience didn’t seem very happy about the decision. In fact, they seemed more upset than I have ever seen them after an elimination (this year or last year). At one point, I thought the fans might start throwing things at the band.

The other thing I am bummed about is that next week they are doing original songs and Ryan’s original song was so awesome! Oh well, I would have sent home Storm, maybe Dilana for performing so poorly. Definitely NOT Ryan!

But they are choosing a singer for their band, not mine.

Who would you have eliminated?

Rockstar Supernova - Have they already picked a winner?

The blogosphere is full of posts regarding this post that claims the guys in Supernova have already decided who they want to front the band.

NOTE: Don’t look at that post unless you want to find out who she says is going to win!

Last year, there were tons of rumors that the competition was fixed and that Mig was going to win it, but that didn’t happen. So we will see if this comes to pass. On the other hand, if I were them I would have a good idea of who I was leaning towards by now, so who knows…

Week 8 Rockstar Fans Pick Songs

The fans chose what songs would be played this week.

Lukas - Lithium
Lukas started the show off playing Lithium. It was interesting to learn that prior to being on this show he was flipping chicken at Hooters. His performcance gave me chills. In other words, I really, really liked it. It was one of his best performances yet.

Magni - I alone
Magni was very good. His voice is awesome and he put on a pretty good performance.

Ryan - Clocks
WOW! Ryan is full of surprises every week. He put on the best performance of the night. If I was giving out the encore I would give it to him.

Storm - Bring me to Life
She sang it ok, but I wasn’t overly impressed. She had Toby sing backgrounds and he kind of stole the show from her. She is probably going home this week.

Toby - Rebel Yell
One of his best performances. At the end he brought girls out of the audience to dance with him on stage. It was a really, really good performance.

Dilana - Mother, Mother
Dilana put on a really good performance. She sang it well. Excellent way to end the show.

With the exception of Storm I could see any of these performers sing with Supernova. It really depends on what they are looking for now. The bottom three at the end of the show was Lukas, Storm and Ryan. My bottom three would be Storm, Magni and Dilana. But other than Storm it is really, really hard to put any of them in the bottom three.

Rockstar Supernova says Farewell to Patrice

It was no surprise that Patrice went home this week. I think that from here on out it is going to be tough on the Rockers to let people go home.

Tonight, Toby got to sing with Rockstar Supernova and it was really, really good. In fact, it was better than Dilana’s performance last week with the band. I think the second half of this show is going to be interesting. I could see a dark horse like Ryan, Magni or Toby winning it, but I am starting to leaning towards Lukas now as the best fit for the band.

I am looking forward to seeing how things unfold. Take our poll, and let us know who you think should win?

Next Survivor - Tribes to be Divided by Race

I haven’t watched Survivor in years, but they just announced the new cast of Survivor and also an interesting twist. Next season, the tribes are going to be divided by race. Yikes!

You can read more about the division of tribes into races by clicking here.

This move is certain to cause some controversy. Not a bad marketing idea though…

Week 8 Rockstar Supernova Performances

This week the song selection battle was a little interesting. There were two original songs up for grabs and at the beginnning, everyone wanted one. In the end, Patrice and Ryan got to sing the two original songs. If Rockstar follows last years progression, this means that in the near future, they will all be singing original songs.

Patrice - Original song
Patrice was alright. It was a nice tune, but her voice has seemingly gotten weaker over the competition. I am not sure why.

Magni - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Nice performance, solid vocals. It might still land him in the bottom three, but probably not.

Ryan - original song
Really nice performance, great vocals, amazingly enough he is actually becoming my favorite of the group. It reminds me of how Marty came on at the end of last season and just blew me away.

Storm - Cryin’
Nobody wanted to sing this Aerosmith song, but Storm had the guts to take it on. She did pretty good with it vocally, but it wasn’t my favorite performance. I think she will be in the bottom three.

Dilana - Every Breath You Take
It was a good rendition of the song. I still have a hard time listening to anyone other that Sting sing a Police song, but Dilana did a nice job with it. Strange outfit and eyelashes though. I could see her in the bottom three, but don’t think it will happen.

Toby - Layla
Not great vocally, but made up for it with his performance. He should be in the bottom three this week.

Lukas - All These Things That I’ve Done
It was pretty good, and I love the way he moves on stage, except for when he turns his back to the crowd. Tommy said two words, “check please”. The first time Tommy described a Lukas performance was with one word, “Rockstar”. I think Lukas might be Tommy Lee’s favorite.

It’s getting to be narrow pickings for the bottom three. I think that anyone could be in the bottom three at this stage. I expect to see Toby, Storm and Patrice in the bottom three, with Patrice going home. I expect Ryan or Magni to sing the encore.

We shall see…

Big Brother Howie Sent Packing by The James Competition

Well, I am only going to give out quick updates of Big Brother, because I don’t like to discuss any of the bad stuff. Anyway, this evening James won the power of veto (as he always does when he wants to). George put Howie on the block and Howie went home.

Mike Boogie won head of household, so he won’t be using his special powers at all.

This has been your 1 minute recap of Big Brother All Stars, now back to your regularly scheduled programming…

Big Brother All Stars - Marcellas Goes Home

For a quick summary of tonight’s show:
Marcellas went home, Mike Boogie got the power of Coup D’Etat and George got the Head of Household. James and Erica are up for eviction. It’s a double eviction week.

So, I haven’t been blogging about this, but Jill and I have been watching Big Brother All Stars. It is amazing how well Dr. Will and Mike Boogie have played the game. I can’t believe they weren’t put up every week.

Anyway, I just had to comment on how amazing Will plays this game. I actually have gotten to the point where I am rooting for Will and Mike Boogie, because they are playing the game so well.

Rockstar Supernova Super Suprise

One more note about tonight’s elmination show. Tonight, to start the show off, the band announced that every week they will be performing one of their songs with one of the rockers trying out for the band. Prety cool surprise to pop on us. Tonight they chose Dilana and she really did a nice job. Looked like she fit in well with the band. The chorus of the song reminded my wife and I of the song “Bang a Gong”, but the overall sound of the song reminded me of KISS. In fact, I could totally have seen Paul Stanley fronting Rockstart Supernova for that song.

Also, after Dilana sang, they gave Ryan the encore for his awesome performance last night.

Anyway, I am looking forward to next week’s show. One really other good thing is that next week it’s not going up against “So You Think Can You Dance”! Congrats to Benji for winning the dancing competition tonight, he and Travis were both incredible and fun to watch.

Later…

Week 7 Elimination Night - Zayra goes Home

Zayra was one of the most entertaining performers this year, but early on it was obvious she was not meant for this band. It was only fair to send her home.

Oh, and wow does Magni have a good voice. In my opinion, Magni and Ryan have the best voices - Lukas and Dilana are the best performers. It will be interesting to see how things play out, but I still think that either Lukas or Dilana will win (unless Magni or Ryan greatly improves their performance style).

What do you think, should Zayra have gone home? Who do you think will be singing for Rockstar Supernova?

Week 7 Rockstar Supernova Performances

Zayra - An original song.
It sounded good. She sang it in Spanish, which does nothing for me personally and only shows how wrong she is for this group. On the up side, I can see why she fought for the original song, because it gave her a chance to show off what kind of music to expect in her solo carreer.

Magni - Starman
He does a really nice job with this Bowie song. Magni kind of reminds me of Ty from Rockstar INXS. Solid performances every week, just not spectacular.

Patrice - Message In A Bottle
Nobody except Sting should sing a Sting song. The Police songs were boring, repetitive songs. What made them good was Sting sang them. I would never, ever, ever sing a Sting song in a singing competition.

Lukas - Hero
Excellent performance again. There is something special about Lukas that makes him take over the stage. He is always larger than life. I think it’s that he really connects emotionally with the music and you can feel that. Same thing with Dilana. That’s why one of them should front this band.

Storm - I Will Survive
Not a very good rendition of the song. To quote Tommy Lee, “I thought that was sauteed in wrong sauce.”

Toby - Solsbury Hil
Toby played this song with Gilby, who was sitting in the background on this song. To earn the right to play this song, Toby ran around the Rockstar Mansion pool naked. That alone should keep him from going home this week. He sounded pretty good singing the song. His performance was a bit mellow.

Ryan - In The Air Tonight
Perfect vocals. He has really transformed since week 1. He may have the strongest voice of the bunch. Performance wise, I just don’t see him beating out Dilana or Lukas. He might make the final three though.

Dilana - Cat’s In The Cradle
It was good, I didn’t think it was her best performance, but the guys in the band really liked it, which is what matters.

This week my bottom three would be Patrice, Zayra, and Storm. I could see Toby easily taking Storm’s place in the botom three.

Dancing With The Stars starts September 12

The more popular the show gets, the more diverse its “stars”. This season, the biggest surprise to me is Jerry Springer. I can’t imagine him being that good, but I may be surprised.

Here is the lineup of the other dancers:

Tucker Carlson– Bowtie wearing news commentator. I would love to see him dance jive or the rumba. He seems so buttoned down. It will be interesting to see how he does with the “groovier” styles of music, if he survives that long.

Vivica Fox– Star of movies, such as Independence Day and Kill Bill. I would imagine she’d be really good. At least she’ll look good in the outfits.

Sara Evans– I didn’t have a clue who she was. She’s a country music singer. The only song that rang a bell with me was “Suds in the Bucket”, which I knew because Kellie Pickler sang it (to not great reviews) on American Idol.

Harry Hamlin– Actor (L.A. Law and Clash of the Titans) and wife to Lisa Renna, former contestant.

Joe Lawrence– I have to assume that this refers to actor “Joey” Lawrence, rather than baseball player Joe Lawrence, but I could be mistaken. I think he could turn out to be another Drew Lachey.

Mario Lopez– He’s one of those stars about whom I think “Oh, yeah… that guy” but couldn’t tell you a thing he’s been in. It’s Saved By the Bell– that’s where you know him from (in case you were wondering). How will he be as a dancer? Hopefully more memorable than as an actor.

Willa Ford– Another “who?” for me. She’s a pop singer, for those (like me) who are clueless, so she ought to at least have some sense of rhythm. And she’s a blonde bombshell, so that might garner her some votes.

Monique Coleman– Again, I didn’t have a clue who she was. She’s a young actress who has worked quite a bit in non-starring roles, everything from Gilmore Girls to High School Musical.

Shanna Moakler– No, I didn’t know who she was, either. Turns out, she’s no stranger to reality television, since she has starred with her soon-to-be-ex husband Travis Barker on MTV’s “Meet the Barkers” (maybe somebody should get a clue that putting your marriage on t.v. may be great for your career but not for your marriage). She’s also a former Miss USA and sometimes actress.

And finally–

Emmitt Smith– Super bowl champion. Will he be able to live up to Jerry Rice’s success? I don’t know. Does he have Jerry Rice’s personality? Because, let’s face it, he primarily advanced as far as he did because he continued to improve, and he seemed like he was such a nice guy– not because he was THAT good.

Who do you think will stand out? Who will go home first? Who are you most excited about? Inquiring minds want to know.
